01 | Executive findings

What the evidence shows

  1. Identity data is systematically weak. About 70.7% of employee Aadhaar fields are blank or unusable; several large employers show near-total gaps.
  2. Payroll volume collapsed after August 2025 because major clients stopped monthly filings - not because the platform went dark. Awign continued at a trickle.
  3. Only 17 of ~45 unique client codes carry headcount; most of the book is compliance-only or idle.
  4. Three company codes are duplicated across different legal names - a structural reporting risk.
  5. Payment mode is missing on most pay rows (literal "-"), so bank-vs-cheque reporting is not trustworthy.
  6. ESI amounts in pay files are effectively empty in this snapshot; PF and net pay can be totalled after converting string fields.
02 | Scale & concentration

A few employers dominate the workforce file

  • Awign, Xoriant, and Novo Nordisk together hold a large majority of the 12,407 people on file.
  • Platform document scale is ~102k rows across 34 collections; attendance and pay registers are the volume cores.
03 | Client coverage

Payroll-active is a minority of the client book

  • 17 unique codes have employees; 28 have zero headcount in this extract.
  • Zero headcount is often intentional (licences, returns, notices) - but test/placeholder names also appear.

04 | Workforce & KYC

Identity and bank gaps concentrate in a few codes

  • Across payroll companies: Aadhaar blank 8,771, PAN 2,856, bank 2,132, UAN 1,927.
  • Awign / Novo / Teceze / DEX* show ~100% blank Aadhaar - likely never collected here, not random holes.
  • Lendingkart, Vivanta, Coffer, Ambuja, Le001, Map001 are bank-account blind spots.

05 | Attendance & payroll over time

The rupture is a cohort exit

Sep-Oct 2025 is not a total outage. Awign still filed ~290 attendance rows each month. Xoriant and Novo Nordisk stop. 2026 volume is a thinner, different set of companies.

06 | Pay - PF - ESI

Statutory totals at company-month grain

  • Net pay and PF are recoverable after converting string salary fields; ESI is mostly "-" -> near zero.
  • Xoriant dominates absolute Rs volume through August 2025; after the drop, platform totals shrink with coverage.

Categoricals and keys need a cleanup pass

  • Gender appears as Male / M / male / Female / F / "-".
  • Employee state mixes casing, glued names (TamilNadu), and site strings used as state.
  • modeOfPayment is "-" on ~63% of pay-register rows.
Duplicate company codes: Ari001 (3 names), Awi001 (2), Tho001 (2). Prefer unique IDs for compliance joins.

08 | Implications & actions

Secondary - what the findings imply

This section is intentionally short. The audit's job is evidence; execution owners should treat the list below as a starting backlog.
  1. KYC: Bulk Aadhaar for Awign & Novo; bank capture for Lendingkart / Vivanta / Coffer / Ambuja cohort.
  2. Coverage: Confirm with account owners whether Xoriant & Novo are paused, offboarded, or blocked on uploads.
  3. Master data: Split duplicate codes; standardise gender, state, payment mode at entry.
  4. Finance: Quote company-month totals, not platform averages; do not rely on ESI until fields are populated.

Method notes for analysts

  • Source database: ssa. Snapshot generated 2026-07-18 and embedded at HTML build time.
  • KYC "blank" = string length < 4 after null coalesce (covers empty, "-", short junk).
  • Pay totals use $convert on salary.totalNetPayAmount, salary.pf, salary.esi, salary.grossPayable (onError -> 0).
  • Join model: payroll keys are company/branch/employee codes; compliance often uses ObjectIds - see architecture note.
  • Architecture diagram (separate file): ../ssa-architecture.html - not embedded in this audit.
